Name the responsible lawyer
Ask which lawyer would be responsible if the firm accepts the matter and whether that could change. Verify that individual’s license in the relevant jurisdiction.
Understand staff roles
Paralegals, legal assistants, investigators, and other lawyers may perform important work. Ask who handles records, status questions, negotiations, depositions, and court appearances.
Ask how supervision works
If several people will work on the matter, ask how work is reviewed and when the responsible lawyer becomes directly involved. The aim is clarity, not a preference for a particular firm size.
Plan for handoffs
Ask what happens if a team member leaves, is unavailable, or the matter reaches a stage requiring different experience. Record who will notify you about staffing changes.
Compare access realistically
Clarify which questions go to staff, which go to the lawyer, and how appointments are scheduled. A concrete access plan is more useful than an undefined promise of availability.
